Six deers died due to translocation to Sunderbans. Twenty five deers were translocated to Sunderbans. It is said that around twenty percent of the deers die during translocation.It is also very difficult to acclimatise deer taken to another habitat, reports Asian Age. |

A tiger was found dead in Uttarakhand.The body was half-decomposed.Chandan Bangari, a villager said, “Early morning villagers found a dead tiger in Syat Van Panchayat of Ramnagar division. The body was decayed. But,all it’s body parts seems intact.” |

Wildlife too faces threat from cancer

A recent study by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has revealed that cancer not only touches the lives of humans, it is also a major threat to wild animal populations. It suggests links between wildlife cancers and human pollutants, as well. One kind of pollutant in the waters, called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, is known to cause cancer in humans. The compounds are suspected carcinogens for beluga whales as well, reports Times of India. |

”A tiger sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh not having tigers is a cause for great concern after all it is the epicentre of tiger population. …If I were to rename Project Tiger I would call it Project Eco-system. …The tiger symbolises the forest just like the snow leopards symbolises the mountains, or the cheetah once upon a time symbolised the grasslands,” says Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest, Jairam Ramesh while speaking on CNN-IBN. |

Tiger Count in Panna is zero

As the central team of wildlife investigators left, forest minister Rajendra Shukla admitted that the tiger count in Panna was zero. There are only two borrowed tigresses, translocated from nearby Kanha and Badhavgarh, left in the park. The investigation is in sharp contrast with a report published in the June 2008 edition of an environment magazine, where state principal chief conservator of forests H S Pabla had claimed that Panna was flourishing with tigers, reports Suchandana Gupta in the Times of India. |
